Re: Why use archive.org for hosting? |
i can tell you, that i also have a place and bandwidth
but! archive.org is a center point of world netlabelism - i mean netlabels collection - and to have a netlabel here means to have an audience.
and make mirrors, simon is right.
the othe thing is Creative Commons, cause archive.org is NATURALLY Creative Commons. it is important, for artists (in Russia I mean, in my case - as we have strange laws according to music in internet).

Re: Why use archive.org for hosting? |
Great replies! Yes, archive.org being the center of the netlabel community so to speak is definitely why I wanted to use the site. I like the idea of mirroring, possibly offer a second download option via a torrent (we shall see). My only concern would be how to track the total number of downloads overall, but that's small stuff. Time to upload some releases :)
Thanks again for the replies!

Re: Why use archive.org for hosting? |
i use IA as the central point to watch the netlabel releases (via the releases rss-feed and the forum rss-feed); that's easier than to watch hundreds of netlabels; and i also filter on the description and cataloguenumber: if an uploader does not do this effort, i do not the effort to download it, i only have 2 ears, and there is already an overload ...
About the speed and availability of the site: things are getting better right now ...
